Viettel Eliminates Roaming Charges in Laos, Cambodia

Good news for regional travelers: Viettel recently announced that it has done away with roaming charges in the Indochina region.

From now on, Viettel will apply the same domestic rates to calls, texts and web usage in Laos and Cambodia as well as Vietnam, reports Tuoi Tre.

This means the previous VND3,600/minute international rate applied to neighboring countries will now drop to VND2,000/minute, while text message charges will go from VND2,500/message to VND500/message.

Though the change is certainly good news for the telecom outfit’s more than 2 million subscribers previously roaming in Laos and Cambodia, the number of subscribers who actually use the feature is relatively small, coming in at just 0.5% of Viettel’s total subscription base.
