North-South Expressway Project Is Vietnam's Top Priority in 2019: Transport Minister

The construction is expected to be completed by 2025.

According to VnExpress, in 2019, Vietnam's top priorities include 11 components of the North-South Expressway, three of which are publicly funded and the rest will be funded through a private-public partnership deal.

Nguyen Van The, the Minister of Transport, said that construction on two public-funded projects will kick off in the second quarter of this year. They include Nam Dinh Province's Cao Bo–Mai Son Expressway, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue provinces' Cam Lo–La Son Expressway. The third public-funded project, My Thuan 2 Bridge in the Mekong Delta, will go through the contractor selection process in the last quarter of the year.

The ministry will also start the bidding process for eight projects that fall under the public-private funding model in October. The process is expected to be finalized in April 2020 at the earliest.

"We want to finish the selection of contractors this year so that work can begin next year and in 2021," said The, adding that the ministry will set out VND7 trillion from the VND14 trillion it has raised from bond issuance to fund land clearance and aims to acquire all the required lands by next year.
