Heavy rains from storm Son-Tinh, which eventually weakened to a tropical depression, have caused flash floods and fatalities in central Vietnam.

In Thanh Hoa Province, two people died after a family of four were swept away by a flash flood. According to Dan Tri, the bodies of Vi Van Thien, 52, and Le Thi Bien, 75, were found, while Ha Thi Bien, 28, and Vi Thi Huyen Tran, 4, are still missing.

The flash floods hit Lang Chanh District on the evening of July 19, damaging houses and sweeping people away. Local authorities have been sending out search parties for the missing and providing safe places to sleep for those affected.

Many roads in the area have been completely cut off, while 50 households from Trai 2 Village have been relocated to safer areas.

Meanwhile, in Nghe An Province, 35 people have gone missing after venturing into a forest in search of bamboo and getting caught in the storm, Dan Tri reports.

According to local authorities, the people ventured into the forest just before the storm struck and have not been seen since. Although five people returned, the others remain unaccounted for.

A search team has been sent looking for them but has found no trace of them so far.

VnExpress adds that afternoon flooding in Yen Bai Province killed eight people and left 10 more missing, while another six people were injured.
