The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recently proposed some changes in the decree that regulates night clubs and karaoke bars.
According to the new proposal, karaoke bars are no longer allowed to lock rooms or install locks and alarm systems, Giao Duc Thoi Dai reports. These businesses can only use songs that are legal to popularize and distribute. Music concerts and dance events have to comply with the parameters of Vietnam's cultural, ethical and traditional customs. Night clubs are also banned from operating from 2am to 8am and from providing service to persons under 18 years old.
The ministry explains that these stricter regulations are set because karaoke bars and night clubs are high-risk businesses as they're mostly catered to young people and offer alcoholic beverages. Banning them from locking rooms can also prevent these places from being a front for prostitution.
The proposal also specifies that karaoke and night club businesses must be located at least 200 meters away from schools, hospitals, religious establishments, historical sites and state offices, according to a report on Dan Tri. The government office is gathering opinions and votes from other state agencies in order to come to the final decision about the new decree.
