Amid Worsening Outbreaks Elsewhere, Hanoi Pauses Its Reopening Roadmap

Bia hơi, gyms and karaoke need to wait until further notice.

As of right now, Hanoi’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) does not have any more proposals to ease COVID-19 restrictions in the capital.

A CDC leader told Dan Tri that as the country records more cases, especially in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi is still in a dangerous situation, and thus the agency hasn’t made more reopening suggestions.

On June 26, two new COVID-19 cases were reported in Dong Anh with unclear transmission sources. These cases broke Hanoi’s 11-day streak without any new patients. Luckily, more than 500 people related to the cases have all tested negative.

Previously, CDC Hanoi suggested that the People's Committee reopen some non-essential businesses such as restaurants, cafes and hair salons. The proposal was approved and June 22 was dubbed the “phở liberation” day. A few days later, outdoor activities such as parks and golf courses were reopened

Indoor gyms, bars, massage parlors, karaoke and cinemas remain closed.
