Roadworks Expected on Au Co for 4 Months as Street Widening Begins

Hanoi authorities began the second stage of widening the main road heading towards Noi Bai airport on Sunday, with roadworks now expected on a three-kilometer stretch of Au Co for at least four months.

According to VnExpress, work on the project, which will cost a total of VND800 billion (US$34.5 million), began last weekend. Authorities are aiming for the work to be completed by April, which is when Vietnam will host the 36th ASEAN Summit. The country will also host the 31st Southeast Asian Games in November 2021, an event that will run more smoothly with improved infrastructure.

The new construction follows the widening of the southern part of Au Co and the construction of an overpass above the An Duong - Thanh Nien interchange, which was completed at the end of 2018. That project took was calculated to cost over VND311 billion (US$13.4 million) and took nearly a year to complete.

The road widening on Au Co will be more straightforward, as there will be no overpass that needs to be constructed, which will speed up the process. Once completed, the road will be widened to four lanes on each side as opposed to two. Trees will also be planted on each side of the street.
