Last Coronavirus Patient in Vietnam Tests Negative

All 16 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) in Vietnam have now tested negative.

A 50-year-old man living in Vinh Phuc Province was one of six people who returned to Vietnam after working in Wuhan and tested positive for the virus. According to VnExpress, doctors say he tested negative for the virus on Sunday. He will be tested again before being discharged and released from quarantine.

The man is the last of 16 people who have been diagnosed with the illness in Vietnam. The other 15 have made a full recovery and been released from quarantine.

It is possible that more cases may emerge moving forward. Two Vietnamese were quarantined in Da Nang after returning from South Korea and Vinh Phuc Province, according to Dan Tri.

While no new Covid-19 cases have been reported in over one week in Vietnam, public schools remain closed until at least March, and some marketplaces in or near Vinh Phuc Province are empty, while restaurants have closed and tourism spots such as Tam Dao are muted amid virus paranoia.

And, in good news for race fans, AFP reports that the inaugural Vietnam Formula One Grand Prix will be held in Hanoi according to the current schedule. Le Ngoc Chi, CEO of the race, told the news source that the event will take place on April 5.

There had been concerns that the race would need to be postponed out of concern over the Covid-19 outbreak. The Chinese Grand Prix, held annually in Shanghai, has already been postponed.

Tran Trung Hieu, deputy director of Hanoi's tourism department, affirmed the news. "The time for the...F1 race will not be postponed or delayed," he was quoted saying. "Although this is a sports event, it has a very huge impact on Vietnam and Hanoi's tourism."

As of Sunday, there have been 78,811 cases confirmed globally and 2,462 deaths. The World Health Organization has praised Vietnam's response to the outbreak.
