Hanoi is celebrating the anniversary of the founding of the city in 1010 with a series of cultural events from October 3 to 15.

The capital was established in 1010 under the name 'Thang Long', which means 'ascending dragon'. On the 10th of October, Hanoi will honour the city's founding father Emperor Ly Thai Tho with an incense lighting ceremony at Hoan Kiem Lake. Visitors can also enjoy light and artwork installations across the city. On the morning of October 3, a dragon dance competition will take place at Ly Thai To Park. All public celebrations will follow the directions from the Ministry of Health to ensure the health and safety of spectators.
