This week the Hanoi Philosophy Forum will host two thought-provoking evenings of discussions, talks, games, music and art exploring the complexities of cultural appropriation.

+ A series of lectures and small-group discussions led by Jon Dallas
+ Music written for the Forum by Felipe Martín and James Moore
+ Artwork created for the Forum by Myrthe M Nijs, Olga Raski, Lara Hardie Stewart, Travis Risner, @korrieXplicit, and Lara Ross-Mcglynn
+ Haiku and/or Drawing Contest led by Truitt Urbanic and Dakota Lambert

An issue which in recent years has sparked fierce debate across the globe, Cultural Appropriation is characterised by members of a dominant or privileged class adopting elements of the culture of a historically oppressed class.

+ Do dominant groups have a responsibility to call out cultural appropriation? Is it wrong to be offended on someone else's behalf?
+ Is it possible for a minority group to be guilty of cultural appropriation?
+ Should reparations be paid to the victims of cultural appropriation?
+ Does cultural appropriation rebel against racist stereotypes or perpetuate them?
+ Exactly which features of an individual entitles them to a particular culture (race, nationality, religion, education)?
+ Which matters more in regard to cultural appropriation: Intention or outcome?
+ Exactly who from a culture can grant permission to an outside to adopt a piece of culture?

*Late Nights at Puku and Sidewalk*
On Thursdays the event formally concludes at midnight, but Sidewalk Hanoi - Bar / Kitchen / Events stays open until late. On Wednesdays, Puku Café and Sports Bar never closes. You're invited to stay late continuing the conversation into the night.
