Around the World in 80 Days: Artists Films / Moving Image @ Hanoi DocLab

As a survey of artists films and moving image from around the world and Vietnam, Hanoi Doclab is delighted to present '80 Days around the World: Artists Films / Moving Image', a weekly program of screenings and events that lasts for 80 days, between 07.03.2019 and 23.05.2019.

The program will include 2 series from Artist Film International (AFI), a collaborative project of which Hanoi DocLab and 17 other international institutions are partners, initiated by the Whitechapel gallery in London in 2008. The 2018 series with the theme of TRUTH will showcase 17, and the 2019 series -- GENDER. The 2018 series include Hanoi DocLab's nominated work of Le Xuan Tien, while the 2019 series is with our nomination for Nguyen Hai Yen's film.

Since 2010, Sàn Art, and then Hanoi Doclab have been the partner institution representing Vietnam in the collaborative project of AFI. We took this opportunity to recollect the works by Vietnamese artists nominated every year by Sàn Art and Hanoi DocLab in a screening to showcase Vietnamese artists works in AFI. This March 7th screening will open our 'Around the World in 80 Days' program with works by Nguyen Trinh Thi, Hong-An Truong (in collaboration with Dwayne Dixon), Tran Luong, UuDam Tran, and Nguyen Phuong Linh.

'Around the World' -- with a total of 12 screenings and events -- will continue with other exciting locally-curated programs that survey current practices of Vietnamese and international artists working with moving image. Other participating local artists, curators and scholars include Tuan Mami, Nguyen Quoc Thanh, Tran Duy Hung, Le Thuan Uyen, and Tran Ngoc Hieu.

The 3-month long screening program focusing on artists films and moving image is within Hanoi DocLab's project "Young Moving Image Curators Program" supported by a British Council's Small Grant for the Arts and Creativity. 'Around the World' is also funded by Indochina Arts Partnership.

Stay tuned for our detailed programs schedule!
