Hanoi Autumn Book Fair Taking Place This Week

The event will be held from August 22 to 26 at Thong Nhat Park, running from 8am to 10pm every day.

Organized by the Department of Publishing, Printing and Distribution, it is hoped the fair will help promote reading while also forming connections between publishers and communications agencies, reports Hanoi Times. According to Zing, the event will feature 55 publishers and over 65 stalls.

Newly published books, and workshops on cultural, political and historical issues, will be introduced at talk shows throughout the event, according to Hanoi Times. Other activities include copyright transactions, games for children, and exchanges between writers, publishers and readers.

What’s more, a book donation program will take place – the aim is to fill 1,000 bookshelves for the children of Ta Gia Khau Commune in Lao Cai Province, as reported by Zing. Various promotional programs will also occur during the event, with discounts of between 10–50% and, in some cases, as much as 70%.

Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications Hoang Vinh Bao stressed the importance of books. “Reading for knowledge of science and technology is a way to ensure that we do not fall behind other countries in the world,” he said.

2018 is the fifth year the event has taken place - the 2016 Autumn Book Fair featured 70 book stalls and attracted thousands of readers every day.
