Vietnam Debut of 'Les Misérables' to be Staged Next Month in Hanoi

The play with a title that currently describes the general mood of humanity is heading to the Hanoi Opera House.

VietnamNet reports that the stage adaptation of the classic Victor Hugo novel Les Misérables will be performed for the first time in Vietnam on November 21 and 22.

The Vietnam National Opera and Ballet Theatre (VNOB) has purchased the musical copyright for the play, and had initially intended on performing this month, a timeline that was likely delayed due to the pandemic.

On that note, the news source shares that VNOB aims to use the show to call for global solidarity in the fight against COVID-19, while also highlighting Vietnam's efforts to combat the virus.

The cast will feature both foreign and Vietnamese actors, as well as renowned local opera singers including Đào Tố Loan, Nguyễn Huy Đức, Trần Trang Sao Mai, and Bùi Trang.

Les Misérables will take place in the context of the Hanoi Opera House having to postpone other performances, including Swan Lake, which had been planned for August.

Ticket prices range from VND500,000 to 1.5 million, and more information is available on VNOB's website.
